As Aang found an Earthbending teacher in Toph Beifong, much of the story revolved around the group reaching the city of Ba Sing Se, where they hoped to find an ally in the Earth King. Sure, the series kept its hilarious sense of humor, but "Book Two: Earth" was a considerably darker offering than its predecessor. However, all of that changed in Season 2. The battle was thrilling, and it ended with Aang and his friends victorious. This first season, while serious at times, was also fun and lighthearted. It culminated in an epic set piece that saw all three lead characters join forces with the Northern Water Tribe to take on the Fire Nation's massive invading forces. The "Book" focused on Aang learning to master the element of Water while introducing viewers to this fantasy world, its mythology, its humor and its heart. The first season of Avatar: The Last Airbender saw Aang, Sokka and Katara begin to travel across the Four Nations.
